Common Questions About Root Canals
Get answers to the most common questions about endodontic treatment.
Does a root canal hurt?
Modern root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. We use local anesthesia to completely numb the area, making the treatment itself very comfortable.
How long does a root canal take?
Most root canal procedures take 60-90 minutes, depending on the tooth being treated. The GentleWave procedure can sometimes reduce treatment time compared to traditional methods.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
In most cases, yes. A crown protects the treated tooth and restores its full function. Your tooth may be more fragile after root canal therapy.
What if I don't get a root canal?
Without treatment, a tooth infection will not heal on its own and will likely worsen. This can lead to severe pain, abscess formation, and eventual tooth loss.
